Emilian hugged her back, pecking her lightly on both cheeks before pulling away. He was careful to do it quickly; he wasn’t sure how touchy american’s were, and would’ve hated to offend someone after knowing them after only a day. Actually, he would hate to offend anyone, but since he knew that was impossible, he settled for offending only a few.
“Gracias, Piper. Estoy regular; Y tu?” he smiled back at her. The American accent was definitely still there, but since she had just arrived in Spain, it was to be expected. If she worked at the language and paid attention to the locals, eventually it would go away. “You are doing very well! Soon you will speak as well as me, yes? But I will not be speaking the English as well as you.” he laughed. Emilian fiddled with his satchel strap a little. He was trying hard to be more friendly and open to people, but he couldn’t help but feel that maybe he sounded a little forced. And he didn’t want to sound forced or fake to people, but he also didn’t want to scare them away with his awkwardness and shyness.
“Ah…” Emilian sat down beside her, tugging his satchel into his lap so he could nervously fiddle with the fringe. As he settled onto the fountain ledge, he looked around. The campus really was gorgeous; it was littered with long green lawns and littered with richly colored trees. He couldn’t see any students out on the lawn, but then again, they were most likely unpacking and becoming familiar with their new lodgings. “Is there something in Barcelona you are wanting to see? I am not too familiar with the area, b-but I can most likely find what it is you want to see.” Curse that stupid nervous stutter of his. Curse his horrible English, too. He shut his mouth and looked at the ground. Piper probably couldn’t even understand what he’d just said.
At first she blinked when he responded to what she had said. Some of the words sounded similar so she was able to put it together. “Oh!” The epiphany was quite obvious in her expression and she couldn’t help but feel rather smug. Even if it was only a sentence that she’d learned. Piper could only smirk at his small comment. “Hey! No negativo thinking.” Maybe adding some Spanish in there would make it more believable. “I will be learning Espanol and you’ll be learning English in no time!”
Her eyes had lingered on his face for a split second before she nudged him softly with her elbow. In a sense she could sort of hint at what he was feeling, but then again she couldn’t. “I dunno..” Her mind trailed off, trying to recall what exactly there was to see here in Barcelona. Piper’s mind was something quite.. odd. It was like a permanent record of sorts. Or a sponge for that matter. Once she soaked something in whether it was something she heard or saw- it was engraved into her mind forever. That remarkable memory was exactly what got her places.
“What about Las Ramblas?” Her voice was optimistic, as if she was trying to lighten his mood. “I heard a friend talking about it the other day. She said that-” Her nose wrinkled and she automatically quit talking. She hated when she rambled. “But anyways. What do you think? Yeah?” Her right eyebrow rose only slightly, awaiting his answer.
